Perfect Circle Activity
Mindful MOvement
INTRODUCTION
The ‘Perfect Circle Activity’ aims to promote balance, core strength, and spatial awareness.
Practice Time:
5-10 minutes
Prep Time:
1 minute for practice introduction
Mindfulness Skills:
Balance, Mindful movement, Physical awareness
Supplies:
Open space and chairs
Stand up and shift your weight to one foot. Life the other knee so that the thigh is parallel to the floor.
Now balancing on one foot, attempt to draw a perfect circle with your raised leg. For extra balance, feel free to extend your arms to your sides or hold your belly. You should feel your core tighten as you balance.
Give your circle three tries, if you fall out of the pose, start over.
Sit down when you are done with the standing practice and repeat sitting down.
Reflection Questions:
How did this practice make you feel? Were you able to stay focused the whole time? Why or why not?
Were you able to draw a better circle while standing up or sitting down? Why do you think this is?
Which version of the practice was more enjoyable – standing up or sitting down? Why?
Did you ever become frustrated or impatient with your balance during this activity? Did you feel yourself judging your ability to balance or draw a circle?
