multitasking ball activity

INTRODUCTION

The ‘Multitasking Ball Activity’ is a fun, hands-on approach at teaching youth how multitasking can affect stress levels in the body. 

Practice Time:

2-10 minutes

Prep Time:

2 minutes for demonstration and explanation

Mindfulness Skills:

Hand/Eye coordination, Mindful movement

Supplies:

Open space, Balls (Tennis balls, stress balls, yoga balls etc.

Standing up straight, start by tossing the ball and catching it in your dominant hand. Ensure that you are not throwing the ball too high or too low.

As you continue to toss and catch your ball, begin tapping your dominant foot against the floor.

Continuing with the ball and the foot taps, raise your non-occupied arm to the side and start circling at the shoulder.

Now rock your hips back and forth while continuing the other steps.

Finally, begin counting down from 100 in increments of 6! 

Reflection Questions:

  1. How many of these steps could you successfully do at the same time? 
  2. How was your throwing and catching affected after adding more steps?
  3. Did you drop the ball at any point? How high were you throwing them all by the end of the activity? 
  4. How did this activity make you feel? Did you stop enjoying the activity at any point? 
  5. Does life feel like this when you have too much going on? Why do you think that is?
